Spotlight on OT image

We first met Iby at the 2018 NYSOTA conference. She hadn’t decided whether she wanted to focus on pediatric or geriatric occupational therapy. She has evolved into a frontline worker in occupational therapy and we couldn’t be happier to feature her as this month’s OT spotlight!

Iby Mathews is an Occupational Therapist based in the Greater New York City area. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences and Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from York College, CUNY in 2019. In her first year of practice, she worked in a variety of settings – Acute care (adults), SNF/Nursing Home (pediatrics and adults), Sensory Gym (pediatrics), Home care (adults). Her passion is working with both adults and children who have neurological conditions. Every day, she strives to provide the best quality care that she can by educating, motivating, and enabling her clients to improve their overall quality of life.

Her passions outside of working with her clients include mentoring students and new graduates in navigating the field, especially making the transition from a student to clinician role. She was fortunate to have the right supports from mentors who patiently guided her along the way. In return, she enjoys giving back by offering her knowledge, advise, encouragement to others.

Whether you have one year, a few years or decades of experiences in the field, stay focused on your “why”! Don’t ever stay complacent. Follow your passions, however big or small, and you will make a difference in this world every day.
