Teach Kids to Clean!

Several weeks ago I found myself complaining about how much time I spend cleaning our house.  Between work and chores, I have no downtime.  Rebekah (our Head of Design & Production) suggested that I teach Buster to help with more cleaning activities.  I realized he had been doing the same level of household chores for years.  As I researched more, I learned how important it is to increase his responsibilities and to teach him more life skills!  So, here is my next "resolution" for 2021, teaching my kids to clean!
Angela Brown's YouTube Channel has a wealth of cleaning tips.  I found her ideas about getting children to buy in to the cleaning process interesting.  You can watch all her videos here or these are some of my favorites:   Angela Brown also has a website with additional resources and tips that you can find here.  This website also has two sections for teaching kids to clean here and here.
I really liked the pointers in this article about getting your child to clean starting from a young age.  While we began a chores for allowance construct a number of years ago, there is an interesting opinion that children should not be paid to do household chores, as it is part of their responsibility to the family.  You can read about that here.
Who knew?  Chores are actually good for kids in so many ways!
Research by Dr. Marty Rossmann at the University of Minnesota determined that the best predictor of young adults' success in their mid-20s was that they participated in household tasks when they were three or four!  You can read the press release here

The Center for Parenting Education has a number of excellent articles.  You can find all their resources here or an article on the value of chores here.
I couldn't resist sharing these cleaning tips from Popular Mechanics!! Check out their time-savers here.   There are also 50 housecleaning hacks from Good Housekeeping, which you can find here.
I was looking for lists of chores by age, so that I could get a sense of what is appropriate for my children.  I found a number of options:

Delivery services have become ubiquitous during the pandemic.  Some are better than others.   This short film puts it in perspective, literally!
