N E W  Y E A R ' S   R E S O L U T I O N S

I'm not one to make New Year's resolutions, but this year I have made several choices, which happen to correspond with the start of the new year.  It's not a big leap to call them New Year's Resolutions.  They all have to do with health, so that has inspired this entire health-related Survival Guide Edition!
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has some terrific resources for teachers, parents and care-givers.  Check out:
  • BAM!  Body and Mind Classroom information and resources for teachers of grades 4-8.  The full content here
  • Kids' Quest helps kids better understand disabilities by building awareness and compassion (link here).
  • Ask a Scientist. including lessons on how our hearing works and how we get sick (see links, below):
Perfect for middles school students, grade 4 - 8, with timely topics, 
accessible language and cool graphic styles.
KidsHealth in the Classroom is another excellent resource with activities, lesson plans and quizzes for students from K-12 put out by Nemours Children's Health System.  Topics range from understanding your five senses to addressing cyber bullying.  Access their robust free resources here.  
Health Powered Kids is another amazing free resource, including a broad range of activities and lesson plans on a wide range of topics.  You can access the entire site here.  Don't miss:
  • Virtual Grocery Store Activity (link here), which teaches why grocery stores are set up the way they are and how to understand packaging labels. 
  • Power Chargers (link here), quick, accessible activities to help boost your energy and concentration.  There are activities here for all ability levels - invaluable to improving your concentration during long days of remote schooling! 
  • Healthy snack recipes (link here) to keep the healthy treats going once the school day finishes.
Nike Training Camp  
This is a FREE resource from Nike that requires you to download an app to your phone.  It offers short workouts tailored to your fitness level.  For adults, not kids, this is another resource for getting on track to better health in 2021.  You can check it out here.
